On July 27, the Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch held a themed open day event titled " Step Inside the Consulate, Step Closer to Rewi Alley", attended by over 90 students and teachers from three schools in Shandong Province on a short-term summer study tour, along with more than 10 representatives from local host schools.

Consul General Madam He Ying outlined the consulate's official functions and highlighted Rewi Alley’s historic contributions to China’s revolutionary and nation-building efforts, as well as his pivotal role in fostering China-New Zealand friendship. She called on the young participants to carry forward Alley’s spirit, strive to become "Rewi Alleys" of the new era, and actively contribute to the continued growth of bilateral ties.

Under the Five-Starred Red Flag, the students sang the national anthem with palpable patriotic pride. They later toured the consulate premises under staff guidance, gaining an up-close perspective on the daily work of China’s foreign service and a deeper appreciation of the achievements in China-New Zealand exchanges across economic, trade, cultural, and people-to-people spheres.

The day before the open day, the delegation visited the Rewi Alley Museum, where they explored historical photographs and artifacts to learn about Alley’s extraordinary life and enduring spiritual legacy.
