On July 31, the Chinese Consulate General in Christchurch and Wuhan University co-hosted the second Antarctic Science Workshop. Attendees included Consul General Madam He Ying, a Wuhan University delegation, Christchurch City Council International Director Duncan Sanderman, and over 60 scientists, professionals, and doctoral students from both countries.

Consul General Madam He welcomed the participants, noting that China and New Zealand are natural polar science partners. Christchurch, a key Antarctic gateway, has warmly welcomed China's icebreakers Xuelong and Xuelong 2 at Lyttelton Port, with New Zealand researchers often joining onboard exchanges. Wuhan University and the University of Canterbury's Gateway Antarctica have long collaborated in polar mapping, ecological monitoring, and capacity building. She voiced hope that the annual workshop would further strengthen bilateral research ties.

Over 20 experts presented on topics including surveying, law, energy, environmental protection, biology, tourism, and climate science.
