On 5 September, the Chinese Consulate-General in Christchurch held the awards ceremony for the second“My China Story”Short Video Competition at the Old Municipal Chambers in Christchurch. Consul-General He Ying attended the event alongside the Rt Hon Sir David Carter, former Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament and National Patron of the New Zealand China Friendship Society; Sarah Stuart, a representative of the Rewi Alley family; and representatives from the New Zealand China Chamber of Commerce, the Rewi Alley Chinese School and the Confucius Institute at the University of Canterbury.

Consul-General He noted that this year’s competition, themed “People Who Bring China and NZ Closer”, received more than 160 entries. Featuring fresh perspectives and heartfelt storytelling, the videos paid tribute to pioneers such as Rewi Alley and Kathleen Hall and reflected the students’ understanding of China–New Zealand friendship. She encouraged the students to carry forward the spirit of Rewi Alley and become young ambassadors for friendship between the two countries.
Sir David spoke about Rewi Alley's important contributions to China–New Zealand relations. He encouraged the students to visit the Rewi Alley Memorial Museum, learn more about Alley's remarkable life and carry forward the friendship between China and New Zealand.

Following the ceremony, the award-winning students and their parents toured the Rewi Alley Memorial Museum.
