On 18 September, Acting Consul-General Xu Haiyuan attended the 2026 New Zealand International Building Expo and Summit. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, President of the New Zealand Chinese Building Industry Association Xu Li, President of its South Island Branch Wang Xiaofeng, and more than 500 representatives from construction companies across New Zealand’s North and South Islands attended the event.

In his remarks, Xu said that members of the Chinese building industry community have worked diligently and established deep roots in New Zealand, making important contributions to urban development, the building sector and the prosperity of local communities. He noted that this year marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period. With its economy maintaining sound momentum and strong resilience, China will continue to serve as a stabilising force for the global economy. The building industry is an important area of practical cooperation between China and New Zealand and enjoys broad prospects. Xu expressed the hope that the two sides would further deepen technological exchanges, resource sharing and project cooperation, and contribute to the continued development of the China-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Organised by the New Zealand Chinese Building Industry Association, the summit brought together high-quality resources from across New Zealand's building industry value chain and provided an important platform for exchanges and cooperation within the sector.
