On 19 September, the Chinese Consulate-General in Christchurch hosted an event themed “Discover Rewi Alley, Finding Inspiration for Your Future”. Director Yin Ji of the Bilateral Relations Section attended the event and delivered remarks. Former Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament and National Patron of the New Zealand China Friendship Society Sir David Carter, Principal of the Rewi Alley Chinese School David Lemon, and more than 30 teachers and students from the University of Canterbury and the Rewi Alley Chinese School attended the event.

During the event, Director Yin reviewed Rewi Alley’s remarkable life of dedication to China’s revolution and development and his lifelong commitment to promoting friendship between China and New Zealand. He encouraged the young participants to draw inspiration from Alley’s example, carry forward his spirit, and become young ambassadors for China-New Zealand friendship and exchanges.
Sir David Carter shared his experiences from his many visits to China and his efforts to promote China-New Zealand friendship and cooperation. He encouraged young New Zealanders to take the initiative to engage with and better understand China, and held an in-depth discussion with the students on topics including career planning and personal development.

The event featured lively discussions and active participation. Afterwards, the teachers and students toured the Rewi Alley Memorial Museum and gained a deeper appreciation of Rewi Alley’s spirit of dedication, sincerity and enduring friendship.
