On 24 September, a review meeting for the student delegation to China organized by the Christchurch Branch of the New Zealand China Friendship Society (NZCFS) was held in Christchurch. Acting Consul-General Xu Haiyuan and Director Yin Ji of the Bilateral Affairs Division attended the event upon invitation. Nearly 100 people were present, including Sir David Carter, former Speaker of the New Zealand Parliament and National Patron of the NZCFS; William Qiu, Honorary President of the NZCFS Christchurch Branch; all members of the delegation; and representatives of their parents.

Acting Consul-General Xu congratulated the students on the successful completion of their visit to China. He noted that through visits and exchanges with their Chinese peers, the students had gained first-hand experience of a real and multifaceted China. He expressed the hope that they would take this visit as a new starting point, carry forward the spirit of Rewi Alley, and contribute the strength of youth to the enduring friendship between China and New Zealand.

The student delegation was organized by William Qiu, Honorary President of the NZCFS Christchurch Branch, and comprised teachers and 20 students from St Andrew's College and St Bede's College.
